Our History

Julius Kaminsky founded Southern Motors Honda in 1929. He bought a Nash automobile in Jacksonville, Florida and drove back and sold it here in Savannah! One car became 2 and the business was born! Originally Southern Motors was a store on Broughton Street that sold Nashs. They later sold Ramblers and then Jeep! Of these manufacturers only Jeep remains, making Southern Motors the oldest Jeep dealer in the World!

Through a great reputation for customer service and loyalty, Southern Motors became the first Honda franchise in coastal Georgia. Eventually a move was needed in 1987 when Acura was added as the 3rd franchise. Southern Motors had to open a new store in the heart of Savannah’s rapidly growing Southside. More growth continued over the years with CDJR opening the Springfield store and building the new Acura store on Chatham Parkway. In 2024 a new store was acquired, and Savannah CDJR was born!

All this expansion was possible because Julius’ children and grandchildren all shared his vision and made Southern Motors a family business. Today, Myron, Adam, and Ross are active owner-operators who work diligently to ensure that the tradition of excellence that began is continued today.
